Holidays: not many of us get to try before we buy. But that’s exactly what journalist, Marianne did. On a short press visit, she loved Istria so much that she brought her family back on holiday and chose to stay in our house in Brnobici!
Former deputy editor of Marie-Claire and Telegraph regular, Marianne came to Istria for the parenting website, Parentdish. For her, Istria is ‘a brilliant place for a family holiday’; a beautiful, green, seaside destination where, ‘the sea is deep blue and so clear that you can see the fish swimming.’
There are tons of unusual activities to keep the whole family busy (just see her article for her ideas and Activities for mine); English is widely spoken; the food is high quality, with a good mixture of affordable seafood and grills, and plenty of ‘food that children love – pasta, pizza and ice-cream’.
As she says, ‘You might think that all this would make Istria very expensive. But it isn’t. Of course you can spend a lot of money here – there are some luxurious hotels. But even in high season, families with children should be able to find rooms and apartments in private houses that won’t break the bank.’
Concluding, she sums it all up very neatly, ‘The slogan of the Croatian Tourist Board is, ‘the Mediterranean as it once was’. Istria is as near to old-fashioned sun, sea and paddling as you can possibly get – with the added bonus of a bit of ancient history and some wonderful food and wine.’ Something I’ve been saying for years (but perhaps not quite so eloquently! :)).
Sounds all too good to be true? Don’t just take my word for it, read what she says in ‘Holidays in Croatia: take your family to Istria’ – after all, it’s what she did!
