Woodland wonderland

Draguc – Krusvari – Buzet – Roc – Hum

Authentic, rural Istria. This beautiful drive into the heart of Glagolitic Istria takes in woods, pastures, mountains and perfect stone villages. Sleepy and unspoilt, it’s a land the modern world has overlooked.

You can cover this 30 km route in about 45 minutes, but I’d recommend taking a bit longer to stop off and enjoy the sites :). It kept us busy all day! For more information on each of the places, click the links to their official webpages.

  • A: Draguc – My favourite Istrian village. This tiny, medieval town has a stunning location on a spur out into the Mirna valley. Perfectly preserved and totally unspoilt, it’s the gem of Central Istria.
  • B: Krušvari – Atmospheric, small village with wonderful views.
  • C: Buzet – Flourishing, hill-top medieval town, home of Istrian truffles.
  • D: Roc – Cute, sleepy little village with lovely konoba.
  • E: Hum – Billed as ‘the smallest city in the world,’ this tiny place (population 20) has a real medieval, urban feel.

How about a walk in the woods?

  • Krušvari – Walk to delightful Kotli with its beautiful water mill and relaxed konoba at the river edge!
  • Buzet – Hike up a mountain trail to Raspadalica for spectacular views (c. 4.5 km)
